If you read our blog on 5 sure ways to get ingrown hairs, you will know that exercising straight after a hair removal treatment, is one of the top 5 reasons people experience ingrowns.

But why exactly shouldn’t you exercise after a hair removal treatment?

Waxing ensures the region of your choice, is hairless for 4 – 6 weeks depending on how quickly your hair grows. At the end of a wax treatment your skin will need a break for 24 – 48 hours. Waxing treatments are quite hard on the skin and exercise causes a lot of friction and heat which will irritate your skin and create a breeding ground for bacteria. It is recommended your skin has a 24 – 48 hours rest so it can heal and the follicles can close. Applying BB Soothe will help close the follicles and reduce the swelling.

Laser Hair Removal:

Whilst shaving and waxing sees the hair grow back within 4 – 6 weeks, laser hair removal sees much longer lasting results, in most cases the hair is permanently destroyed. After each laser hair removal treatment your hair follicle is left open, which means you are more prone to dirt, sweat and bacteria getting inside your follicle causing infection. Exercising increases your body temperature and sees your body sweat, creating a perfect breeding ground for bacteria which can cause infection or ingrown hairs. It is recommended you wait a minimum of 24 hours after a laser hair removal treatment before you exercise to minimise any risk of upsetting the hair follicles. We recommend applying BB Repair to help cool and rehydrate the skin after a laser hair removal treatment.

Can’t avoid exercising?

If you must exercise at the end of any hair removal treatments, we recommend applying a cold compress to the area to help close the hair follicles. At the conclusion of your work out ensure you have a shower or rinse the area immediately to avoid the sweat and bacteria staying in your pores and causing infection.
