So you’ve read our blog on what to expect for your first laser hair removal treatment and you’re booked in for a laser hair removal consultation. Now you’re no doubt thinking ahead to what you’re going to have to do before your first laser hair removal treatment. Our therapists will take you through this in your consultation, but for now, keep reading!
Avoid Sun Exposure and Spray Tanning
Any type of tanning, be it sun exposure or fake tan, changes your skin’s natural pigmentation. When undergoing laser hair removal treatment, the light from the laser is attracted to the darker pigment of the hair in the follicle. If the skin in the area being treated is tanned or discoloured the light will be attracted to this pigment, rather than the hair follicle, making the treatment ineffective.
Shave the area 12 – 24 hours prior to your appointment
The laser machine’s light is attracted to hair while it’s still in the follicle. Therefore, it’s important that you don’t entirely remove the hair from the root through waxing, epilating or plucking. Without the hair being in the follicle, the laser can’t do its job, which is why we ask you to shave the area instead.
Exfoliate before your appointment
To ensure the best possible condition of your skin we recommend exfoliating with our specially formulated Body Scrub every few days before your treatment, to ensure you have minimal dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. Dead skin cells can impede the success of the light from the laser machine reaching the hair follicle, which impacts the success of the treatment.
That’s it! 3 easy steps to remember before your laser hair removal treatments. Totally manageable! If you’re ready to book in for a laser hair removal treatment you can find your nearest salon or book online.
