Hot-right-now coconuts are everywhere, from our favourite hipster cafes to the most exclusive skincare products. With coconut derived ingredients being used more than ever we thought we would uncover the health benefits of this mysterious magical fruit (not nut).

COCONUT WATER

What is low in calories, naturally fat and cholesterol free, contains more potassium than four bananas, is jam packed of electrolytes and aids digestion? You guessed it- coconut water! Also commonly referred to as “Nature’s Gatorade”. Celebrities such as Madonna, Demi Moore and Lara Bingle swear by coconut water to aid in weight loss and hydration post workout.

COCONUT OIL

Used by baby mama’s all over the world, coconut oil is great for preventing and fading stretch marks. Not only great for use during pregnancy the oil is fantastic as an all over everyday body moisturiser which helps to reduce wrinkles, scars and cellulite.

Coconut oil is so versatile it has many uses but one of our favourites is using it for hair treatments!  Simply wash your hair, allow to air dry and then apply coconut oil- focusing on your mid-lengths and ends. Wrap your hair in a towel wait approximately 30 mins before shampooing it out. If you have problems with pesky dandruff don’t be afraid to pop some on your scalp too for some tender loving care.

COCONUT MEAT

Coconut meat is the rich white lining contained within the shell of a coconut that is jam packed of vitamins A and E. Coconut meat can be eaten raw, cooked, or used as a preserve. Top your salads with lightly toasted coconut meat that has been shredded or grated for an extra kick of flavour sure to be a hit on the dinner table!
