Don’t you hate when you have the perfect spray tan and then the next thing you know it has started fading at the wrists, cracking on your arms and going patchy on your legs and you are left wondering where you’ve gone wrong? Well we hate this feeling too, which is why we have come up with several pointers to help your spray tan last as long as possible. Are you ready? Set? Glow!
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!
A key part of making your spray tan last longer is great preparation. It is important you exfoliate your skin 24 hours before your spray tan application, we recommend using our BB Body Scrub. Exfoliating your skin removes dead skin cells and product build-up, meaning it’s the fresh skin catching the tan particles, not the dead skin. This helps your spray tan go on more evenly and last longer.
Try to carry out your hair removal before your tan. If you prefer waxing, this needs to be done 48 hours before a spray tan, otherwise you will just wax the tan right off! If you prefer shaving but didn’t get time to do it before your tan appointment, try to hold off for the first 48 hours after your tan has been applied. Once this time has passed, you are free to shave! Though we recommend you use a new or sharp razor so your tan doesn’t fade from the razor on your skin.
To ensure a long life for your spray tan, it is really important you keep your skin moisturised and hydrated. Not only does this mean your skin looks better but it stops your skin from drying out, causing your skin cells to flake off.
We recommend that you use our BB Tanning Extender daily not only to prolong your tan, but to also help firm and deeply nourish your skin!
Hold off on the shower
We aren’t saying to never shower when you have a spray tan however we do recommend you hold off on showering immediately after your application. The longer you can leave the tan on your skin to be absorbed the better! We also recommend you don’t jump in the pool, slip into a spa or smash out an intense workout for the first 24 hours. The chemicals in the pool and spa will fade your tan and an intense workout will see you sweat your tan away!
Blot, Pat, Dab, just don’t rub!
After showering, swimming, or anything involving water, we recommend you pat your skin dry. When you rub a towel on your body to dry your skin you are also rubbing away your tan. By patting, blotting or dabbing the skin you will absorb any moisture whilst leaving your tan intact!
A spray tan will not protect your skin from the sun. If you are going into the sun with a spray tan, ensure you use a sunscreen to protect your skin. Sunburn will cause your skin to peel, which will see your tan flake and peel.
